Joel James, Senedd Member for South Wales Central, has this week visited Dogs Trust in Cardiff to learn more about their current campaigns.
Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog charity, with 21 rehoming centres across the UK – and one in Dublin – through which more than 14,000 dogs are cared for over an average year. Dogs Trust also advocates at local, devolved, and reserved levels of government on behalf of dogs and their owners, operating across all the nations and regions of the UK.
At the meeting, Joel and the Dogs Trust team discussed their priorities for 2026 and beyond to ensure that Wales is leading the way on animal welfare.
Speaking about the visit, Joel said:
I was really grateful to have been invited to the Dogs Trust shelter this week in Cardiff, and to learn more about responsible dog ownership, the Welsh Government’s Animal Welfare Bill, and the need for a pet-friendly bill that allows people to keep their pets when renting a home.
I must admit, it was quite awesome to meet several new Bedlington Terriers as well, and even though they have all found homes, it was so difficult to leave without adopting one!
