This week, Joel James MS joined staff and volunteers from Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay to mark the charity’s annual Coffee Morning fundraising event.
The event was an opportunity to find out more about how Macmillan in Wales is supporting people living with cancer, as well as meeting with inspirational Macmillan volunteers, fundraisers and professionals.
This year the official event date is Friday 26th September 2025, but a Coffee Morning can be held on any day and anywhere you want.
Each year Macmillan Cancer Support’s Coffee Morning brings people from across the UK together to share delicious food and drink and raise money to support people living with cancer.
2025 marks a special year as the charity’s flagship fundraiser celebrates its 35th birthday. Over the years, Coffee Morning has raised an incredible £352 million for people living with cancer.
Whether it’s bringing your best bakes into the office, a chai afternoon or a picnic in the park with your mates, you can host your Coffee Morning any way and anywhere you want. Whether you raise a little or a lot, you’ll be part of something amazing, helping more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer.
Sadly, the number of people living with cancer in the UK has surged to almost 3.5 million, with 190,000 in Wales.
At Macmillan, they see every day how cancer can impact people’s whole lives, their relationships, jobs, finances and more. They're doing everything they can to ensure everyone with cancer gets the support that is right for them, but they can’t do it on our own.
Help them transform cancer care over a cuppa, not just for the person in front of us today but for everyone in the future.
Speaking about their support for the annual fundraising event, Joel James MS said:
The news of a cancer diagnosis can be devastating, and it is a sad fact that one in two of us will face cancer in our lifetime.
A Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning is always a pleasure to be a part of.
Last week’s event at the Welsh Parliament was a chance to celebrate Macmillan’s work, and I’m grateful to have met so many amazing people who are doing whatever it takes to support people living with cancer.
