Joel James MS, alongside his Welsh Conservative colleague James Evans MS, have this week highlighted a meeting they attended with Llysfaen Primary School pupils before the Easter Recess.
During this meeting, they listened to the students' concerns regarding issues affecting primary school children in Wales, particularly the impact of social media and the transition to secondary school.
This meeting was part of the award-winning Cynefin programme—a national cultural initiative aimed at public education, co-produced by the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Wales in collaboration with children and young people. The programme empowers children and young people to explore issues that matter to them and helps inform political decision-making.
To date, over 5,000 learners have participated in the programme through topical school debates, YouTube videos, and various other creative mediums. Consequently, the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Wales is developing a toolkit to support the programme’s adoption in schools throughout Wales and beyond.
Speaking after the meeting, Joel said:
It was brilliant to meet with Llysfaen Primary School pupils in the Welsh Parliament before the Easter Recess, with my Welsh Conservatives colleague James Evans MS to discuss their concerns about mobile phones in school, social media, the transition to secondary school, and exam anxiety.
As part of The Royal College of Psychiatrists in Wales Cynefin program - a national and cultural public education initiative - young individuals are being empowered to explore the issues that are important to them and, in turn, influence political decision-making.
