Do you wish your voice was heard more when developments occur on our high streets and in our communities?
Senedd Member Joel James MS has this week met with Public Map Platform- a university led research project which hopes to change the planning system.
Public Map Platform believe that data that informs planning decisions is obscured, biased, incomplete and inaccessible, that public voices aren't being heard and resources are being wasted and local leaders aren't trusted. Therefore their team hope that:
"by integrating the voices of our diverse communities and representing data spatially on a platform accessible to all, we can enhance decision-making and resource allocation to build a better future, together."
Speaking after the meeting, Joel said:
Typically, only 1% of the community has a say on planning issues in their area because existing platforms are difficult to engage with and often unappealing. Public Map Platform aims to change this.
Public Map Platform is a major collaborative research project led by the University of Cambridge, Cardiff University, Wrexham University and Bangor University with an aim to show that a transparent and trustworthy planning system based on maps made by and for communities is really possible.
