Joel James MS, Senedd Member for South Wales Central, has today highlighted World Seagrass Day which, is taking place on the 1st of March.
As the Senedd's Species Champion for Seagrass, Joel sponsored a stall for Project Seagrass and Seagrass Network Cymru at the Welsh Parliament's Marketplace event, to allow Senedd Members to learn more about Seagrass, the benefits of it and why we must protect it.
At the event was also the ‘Seagrass Meadow of Hope’ Art Project, a giant art piece created by schools and community groups showing a thriving seagrass meadow, celebrating the animals that rely on it as a home.
Speaking about the event, Joel said:
Did you know that next week is World Seagrass Day?
As the Species Champion for Seagrass, I was delighted to host Project Seagrass and Seagrass Network Cymru at the Welsh Parliament recently, where we were able to display their Seagrass Meadow of Hope banner.
Sadly, the UK has lost 92% of its seagrass meadows since WW2, and we're trying to bring them back.
