As you may have seen in the media recently, the Labour-run Welsh Government plans to ban greyhound racing in Wales before the next election in 2026.
Animal welfare is paramount, but I’m concerned that a ban will not address these concerns and instead, I think we should be looking at tightening existing regulations.
I'm also concerned about how the ban came about i.e as a result of the Lib Dem budget negotiations with the Welsh Government. This is a particular concern given that the Welsh Government have previously stated that there is no evidence whatsoever to support a permanent ban in Wales.
I also have fears about the precedence this ban could set for other industries i.e. horseracing.
However, I'm conscious that these plans have generated passionate opinions on both sides of the argument.
